18 Hole Women’s Club Championship gets underway

By Loanne Rube

Seems like the shorts are getting longer and I see many vests and jackets this morning. It’s brisk but warming to a lovely day with good golf scores. The first day of the Club Championship is underway. In the lead, so far, for the overall club champion is Monica Saneholtz who posted a gross 86, followed closely by Susie-Q Conklin with 89. Low nets in the championship flight are Suzie Q and Kathleen Holt with 71. Flight One shows Janet Gonzales with gross 94, net 72 leading her field. Flight Two has Karen Davidsen leading with a gross 99, and net 69. Flight Three, not to be out done, shows Auralie Citrigno with gross 108, net 73 and Patti Bell with a gross 108. There’s a lot of golf remaining in this two-week tournament, so polish up those golf shoes and clean the grooves on those irons, It’s fall golf at it’s best.  Celebrating with a birdie today are Monica Saneholtz #2 and #11, Susan Anderson #11, Kathleen Holt #6, Susie Q #11 and Jean Shimada #4. Bringing home the cash with a chip-in are Monica Saneholtz #2, Michelle Chung #16, Cindy Fuller #14 and #17, Jan Kieran #11 and Auralie Citrigno #5. Easier to win with a no putt, ya think! After the Club Championship concludes September 20, there is a Hole In One party at 4 p.m. at Foothill Center with potluck appetizers and the Village Challenge team drawing. This is a fun match play team event over three weeks. Come play!

September 26 is our next Captain’s trophy and that is also our next EC day. October 3 is a casual play day because the course is being aerated. Your final two EC days are October 10 and 17. Complete your EC card. October 24 is a guest play day and the Halloween tournament on October 31 will encourage costumes and decorations for a ghoulish holiday finish to October 2024. Leaves are falling, colors are intensifying. It’s autumn in The Villages. Come play!
