It appears that our own Dianne Doughty is Superwoman. Fifty-one players mixed it up on this sunny, bright summer morning. We had five threesomes, so Dianne flew in dressed in knickerbockers, a backwards Payne Stewart cap and a cape. She joins all five threesomes to make them hole (sic) foresomes (sic) for a two best ball, play day. Say that five times fast. OK, read it five times fast! The 18 hole women duked out a very close team competition. A three-way tie for top honors! Using the NCGA tie-breaking rules, the scores work out like this. Winning first place are Monica Saneholtz, Superwoman, Helen Varenkamp, and MaryAnn Diridon with a -17 to par, net 127. In second place is Patti Bell, Priscilla Piper, Jan Mahoney and Auralie Citrigno, net 127. Third place is Tamsen Burke, Mary Jo O’Neill, Donna Quartaro and Barbara Nilsen, net 127. In fourth place is Vicki Krattli, Cindy Fuller, Carol Zaccheo, and Superwoman, again, net 129. Eight out of 14 teams scored between net 127 and net 133. That’s 6 strokes between the top eight teams. Way to soar and way to score lassies! Check out all the details in the Scoreboard.

Chip ins: Helen VarenKamp #8, Monica Saneholtz #18, Chris Leisy #7, Bok Hee Kim #10, and Barbara Weisend #8. Birdies: Monica Saneholtz #6, Helen Varenkamp #8, MaryAnn Diridon #11, Jane Hong #15, Priscilla Piper #6, Mazie Rice #11, and Vicki Krattli #15. Well done, ladies. Rest up, Dianne. Iron that cape. The Club Championship is September 12 and 19. We have the highest number of sign-ups ever. Low nets awarded in each flight. Come play.

18-Hole Women

Today at luncheon we were delighted to be joined by Kelly Daugherty, the Principal of Silver Creek High School. The 2200 students at SCHS include a Girl’s Golf Team. We have sponsored the young ladies for the past 5 to 6 years. This year we donated $2950 for equipment, balls, green fees, uniforms, and we included a hearty, lift up of support and encouragement. It is a well-known fact that young women who are invested in athletics exhibit greater confidence, independence, leadership, engagement, and mentoring in their future endeavors. They benefit from opportunities to network with other women. In our lunch room today, there were several retired (not retiring…retired) educators who had been mentors/peers of Kelly herself as a young PE coach and educator, and now a principal. Women lifting up younger women. Aye, it’s how it’s always been done. One by one, a strong grip on their golf clubs and on their futures. Additionally, this year Silver Creek High School has joined in team girl’s field hockey and flag football in district wide leagues. All of the newly surfaced tennis courts are also marked for pickleball. So ladies, it matters not. Grab a golf club, a hockey stick, a football or a pickleball paddle. Come play. Young ladies, strengthen yourself for the game of life! Thanks, Kelly for joining us.
