18 Hole Women kick off new year with exciting golf day

January Captain’s trophy winner Emily Li, Director of Golf Scott Steele, and January low putts winners In Kim and Cindy Fuller.

January 2025. It’s a brand new year! The 18 Hole Women’ s Golf Club met up on January 2 for golf on our first play day payday of the year. Captain’s Trophy Golf and Low Putts were on the agenda…. enjoyed with chip-ins and birdie awards, sweeps and a ton of fun. You can find all the winners on The Scoreboard in your friendly neighborhood Villager. Aye, every week whether online or via hard copy in your tube. We play golf like the young girls we are…try to keep up. Our pace of play for good times, golf adventure and laughter is off the charts.

What a glorious morning! A crisp dawn of intense sunshine and color after a cold night. Christmas lights still dangle on our eaves. We’re keeping Christmas for just a little longer. I was dressed up with long underwear, a hoodie, four layers of winter wear, hand warmers, heated vest, gloves, hat, scarf and hot chocolate in my mug. Maybe a little peppermint Schnapps next time! I could barely reach my golf shoes. It wasn’t long after our 9 a.m. start that it warmed up. So now I’m shedding clothes like a woman with a nuclear hot flash and mightily hefting those clubs…looking for a swing and a par.

The winners today were not rusty in their play on 15 holes of golf. Our Captain’s trophy winner is Emily Li with a net round of 57. She barely eked out the win over Vivian Brown and Maziebelle Rice who had net 59s. Low putts were shared by Cindy Fuller and In Kim with 25 short strokes. Chippies from off the green were welcomed by Bev Poellot on #10 and # 16, Judy Steinberg on #3 and #12. Judy Steinberg is a brand new 18 hole sister. She is off to a great start augmenting her retirement funds already in January. Welcome Judy! Helen Varenkamp, our fearless leader scored a birdie on #18 and she was joined by Joyce Mukuno who had a birdie on #11. Were you there for the yummy winter lunch choices of salads, sandwiches and piping hot soup and the laughter about the wacky holidays spent with family? Join our club. Helen Varenkamp, our 2025 Captain, ran a short meeting to remind us of upcoming events. Life in The Villages…you gotta love it!
