We were joined for lunch by guests from Leyva Middle School. Leyva’s principal, two integrated learning “project/problem” team teachers in Math, Art and Design from Leyva and two dedicated district nurses from the Evergreen School District shared their gratitude. The 18-Hole Women’s Golf Group does a whole lot of good while having a whole lot of fun on the links. This past year we sponsored project-based learning for these Leyva youngsters. The students created and designed posters to promote their favorite golfers—us. Researching golf terminology and golf course design, they also used their knowledge in math and geometry to design and create a playable miniature golf course at school. It was unveiled and judged for functionality by some of our lady golfers, and also by some kindergarten students who had a ball learning about golf. The goal was to enhance shared learning in our local community. We support our young learners while they get to showcase their practical math and engineering skills. Perhaps, there is a budding golf course architect among those kiddos. We crossed over generational bridges while we helped demonstrate that learning is fun. Our lady linksters donated over $8,000 this year and $28,000 over the past five years to support families in the Evergreen School District who were especially challenged financially over the holidays. 35 families were given gift cards to Target to be spent on food, and special holiday gifts given by Santa himself. Awesome, ladies! You are truly spectacular in your kindness towards our community outside the gate.

The golf was brilliant in the clear sunshine this morning. The ranks are starting to fill out as we dust off the clubs and re-engage muscles that were previously wrapping gifts and bench pressing holiday turkeys and yams. We continue to play on 15 holes as the bunker project is progressing. Chip-ins were enjoyed by Betty Sharps #13, Vicki Krattli #17, Bev Poellot #16 and Patti Bell #3. Birdies were but a few: Helen Varenkamp #9, and Lyn Strong #6. There was no team game today, but we did have sweeps. See the scores and read all about the winners in the Scoreboard.
