On May 27, it was a “no sweeps day,” but it was a special day, nonetheless. This was our second organized luncheon of the year after golf, and most importantly, the day that our club honored and thanked 16 Past Captains by treating all of them to lunch. Our current Co-Captain, Sheryl Driskell, did a wonderful job organizing a golf game for the Past Captains who still play. Under the leadership of these Past Captains, our club has grown and flourished, and we attribute that to their organizational skills, patience, and a whole lot of heart. Here are our Past Captains (pictured) and the year that they were in office: Marlyn Unger 2000, Shirley Roberts 2001, Madeline Naftzger 2002, Linda Curyea 2008, Jackie Berman 2010, Judy Frey 2011, Rita Karlsten 2012, Mitzi Macon 2015, Carol Begley 2016, Pam Short 2017, Nancy Carson 2018, Pam Leonard 2019, Wendy Ledamun 2020 and 2021, Mary Wagle 2022, former resident Jeannie Omel (who drove in from Monterey) 2023, and Gisele Barber 2024 and current Captain. We thank them for their hard work and contributions to our club. We intend to make the Past Captain’s golf game and luncheon an annual event, as we believe it’s important to showcase them as an integral part of the success of our club.
There were no birdies; however, Sachiko Coleman ended up with the only chip-in of the day on hole 11. Congratulations to Sachiko.
To mention it once again, our Nominating Committee (Sheryl Driskell, Sherry Benz, and Joyce Mukuno) is still seeking candidates for the 2025 Executive Board. For self-nomination as Co-Captain, Secretary, or Treasurer, please contact one of those ladies as soon as possible.
San Jose Country Club’s Invitational, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” is on Tuesday, June 17. The cost is $140 per person accompanied by the registration form that was distributed in our recent weekly blast. Your check and the form must be received by them no later than June 7.
Please sign up for the Mixer with the Shonis on June 24. There are two shotgun starts on the Par 3 course at 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. The signup sheet is located at the Shoni starter table every Tuesday. If you don’t know anybody, sign up anyhow. You’ll be paired with a Shoni. Lunch immediately follows golf in the Fairway Room at a cost of $29, which gets billed to your house account.
