9 Hole Women get ready for summer and ‘Hook & Slice’ Tournament

By Vicki Krattli

The weather is finally starting to be consistent every week, and the ladies can be seen sporting their summer attire rather than bundling up in their spring sweaters and vests. The turnout is getting stronger each week and being able to play both nines is making for faster rounds and more time for post golf conversations.

Next week will be June Captain’s Trophy and for the first time we will be keeping track of our putts for a player to have another opportunity to win a prize. Putting is one of the most important statistics at The Villages as our greens are definitely the biggest obstacle we face. It is the way we can measure our improvement in the game. Many of us seek out new drivers for longer tee shots or better irons to reach the greens but we hit more shots with our putters than any other club in our bag. If you want to measure improvement, keep track of your putts.

The front nine, first flight winners were Marie Leblanc followed by Renee Woolard, Barb Weisend and Judy Steinberg. The second flight winner was Joy Rem followed by Terry Holmquist, Cynthia Jackson and Sherry Benz.

The back nine players scored equally as well. In the first flight, Sachiko Coleman, Suzanne Fazzio, Geri Wilk and Jan Kiernan took home money. Flight two winners were Lilwan, Rita Karlsten, Gwen Bindon and Kathleen Pennington. The scores were very impressive and give us all reason to be proud of our group.

The “Hook & Slice Havoc” tournament is at 4 p.m. next week. You can sign up through Mary Wagle at 408-829-4021. This is a fun 9 Hole game that has a shot gun start at 4 p.m.

The Swingers/Shonis tournament is coming up on Tuesday, June 24. You can register through Betty Hall on Tuesday morning at the Shonis sign-in table.
