Shonis finish 2024 with Turkey Trot

By Betty Hall

December 10 was our last official golfing date of 2024. Wow! 20 Shonis came out today. It was a little chilly to start but with the sun out, pretty soon everyone was shedding the extra layers. Scarfs, vest and coats, gone.

Lots of golfing events today: we finally had our Turkey Trot closest to the pin, we finished up the December birthdays and Nahareen Rahim finished her fifth game and completed her qualifying so now an official Shoni. Congrats!

No birdies today so that pot will roll over to our January 7th return. Who’s going to get the first birdie of 2025?

Putting for Pesos had 2 winners today: Meg Rogers and Manoli Kelly. Congratulations.

Those putting dollars will go in your sweeps envelopes for June payouts.

The December birthday golfers were Marty Blinde and Teddy Morse. Sadly, Deborah Strauss was unable to golf today. So Marty and Teddy each got to drop their worst hole today and so swept the 1st flight sweeps. Happy birthday, you two.

Turkey Trot closest to the pin on 5, delayed from November was won by Peggy White with a drive that landed 2 feet, 10 inches from the hole. What a nice drive! A few of us got on the green but had no chance once Peggy hit that red ball. She was rewarded with the turkey pin seen here.

Our “official ” distance marker was Guy Juarez, Delma’s husband. We always appreciate his help and reward him with some chocolate turkeys.

Our holiday luncheon will be next week—December 17 at 12 p.m. at Montgomery Center. Put on your Holiday finery and get ready to socialize with your Shonis friends and also congratulate this year’s major winners: Club Champion, Most Birdies, Most Captains, Trophies and Most Improved.
