As we enter this New Year that follows so closely on Christmas we bring with us the wonder of Emanuel – God is with us. This encounter with God takes us on a journey. In our journey through 2025 we can learn to recognize how God is entering our world, our lives. He understands our human story and shares the journey with us. It is not a journey to a destination but an adventure, an experience. We rest on the reality of God. Our encounter with the Divine is not only personal but for all humanity as the encounter with the wise ones from the East show us. God initiates the encounter – “In these times past, God spoke to us in partial and various ways through the prophets; in these last days, he spoke to us through his son.” (Hebrews 1:1-2) says St. Paul.
The mystery of God then is facilitated now when we enter into the life of Jesus given to us in the Gospels. Therefore, as you listen and read the Gospel each Sunday try to imagine yourself as if present and possibly have a conversation with Jesus about his life and experience.
