It was a casual, no sweeps, Thursday play day. Clear, crisp and sunny weather and lots of chip ins brought out smiles for the Women’s 18-Hole Golf Club. The bunker project is proceeding and we should be able to play in the new sandboxes with brilliant white sand in two more weeks. That’s when the ropes come down. Bring your own pail and shovel. Everyone posted their own scores, hole by hole, on 15 holes of golf. We enjoyed several new lunch offerings in the clubhouse. Tacos gorditas, ahi poke salad and a huge meatball sub made a delightful entrance. Betty Sharps is still trying to stuff her leftover meatball sub into her golf bag. Go Jay!
Birdies were celebrated by Sheryl Driskell on #11, Camille Giuliodibari on #15 and Millie-Anne Schwerin on #11. Congratulations, ladies! The chip in roster is huge today. Joyce Mukuno #13, Diana Flanigan #3 (wow!), Marie LeBlanc #9 (double wow!), Susie-Q Conklin #14, Michelle Chung #15 and Suk Pau #6 round out the winners enjoying a high five and some moola.
Vicki Krattli reviewed rule #16: relief that is allowed from abnormal course conditions. This rule about locating the closest point of relief is for those instances when we find ourselves on a cart path or in ground under repair, or we need relief from an immoveable obstruction. This is good trouble because no penalty is assessed, except in a penalty area, and getting your ball back in play is what it’s all about. Thanks Vicki!
There were reports of some golf scores that were not stellar. Asking for a friend, I was reminded that our own Scott Steele, Director of Golf gives lessons. This is just in time for shot making tune ups before the golf season fully erupts. Maziebelle Rice gave an update on the upcoming invitational committee meeting in two weeks. Hit them long and straight sisters…but in all cases, hit them on the golf course. Reporting for a friend.
