It’s a must-not-miss Art Demo on Monday, February 3 at 1:45 p.m. in the Cribari Conference Center. Jenna Hobbs is a painter and high school art teacher. Hailing from the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts, she now lives with her family in Pleasanton. Jenna had access to a fantastic arts curriculum in public school from the age of kindergarten through high school. She believes all children should have the same access to arts education as she did. Jenna attended Goucher College, a small liberal Arts school outside of Baltimore, receiving a degree in Studio Art, and later a teaching credential in Art from San Francisco State University.
In addition to the arts, Jenna was exposed to the natural environment from a very young age camping with her family in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and exploring the coastline of Cape Cod. Spending five weeks driving from Massachusetts to California, she planned to work for a season as a horseback trail guide in Yosemite Valley, but, enthralled by California’s ecology and geology, she has lived here ever since. Jenna has completed several backpacking treks in California, Oregon, including the John Muir Trail, and abroad in Spain, France, Italy, and Switzerland, constantly in wonder of nature, caring about the environment.
Jenna’s artwork ranges from realistic, to impressionistic, to completely abstract. Jenna reveals hidden geometry in scenes by painting invisible “plumb lines” between objects, and geometric shapes. In her pieces, Jenna blends geometric abstraction with depiction. Humans have been inspired to organize their environments using geometry: in architecture, in engineering, and in machinery. Jenna makes this geometry visible in natural landscapes showing how it quietly and elegantly exists without human interference.
Jenna has received honorable mentions, special recognition, and a merit award for her artwork. In 2022, she completed a three-week Artist Residency at La Macina di San Cresci in Chianti, Italy.
