In healthcare, a common saying is “The mouth is a mirror of health and disease.” On Tuesday,  February 4, from 11 a.m. 12-noon in the Sequoia Room, Dr. Kayhan Mashouf, DDS will speak on “Advancing Age & Dental Health.” In one informative hour, Dr. Mashouf will cover eight aspects of your oral health: 1) Oral Cancer, 2) Gum Disease, 3) Dentures, 4) Nutrition, 5) Dry Mouth, 6) Motor Control 7) Oral Hygiene 8) regular check-ups for dental health.

Dr. Mashouf, who serves as secretary of the Santa Clara Dental Society, was drawn to dentistry as he helped in his father’s practice during Dr. Mashouf’s school breaks. A graduate of the University of Santa Cruz and a specialist in Orthodontics, Dr. Mashouf said, “I am passionate about community outreach because I know the importance of dental health for your overall well-being and quality of life.”

A little-known fact is that poor dental health can worsen other physical challenges—such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, malnutrition, stroke, and pneumonia. In addition, poor dental health affects self-esteem, eating, sleeping, mouth pain, and decreased social interaction.
