January 28 was another beautiful brisk January day with 54 ladies playing the back nine. It warmed up quickly and was gorgeous as the ladies finished and some enjoyed an early lunch in the bistro. It looks like rain is in the forecast for next week, hopefully not on Tuesday.
Our Flight one winners this week were Janice Mahoney, Carol Zaccheo, Sue Park, Diane Doughty, Laura Swenson, Jean Shimada, Suzy Kim, and Boc Kim. The Second Flight winners included Nancy Dawn, Diane Flannigan, Charlotte Waugh, Kay Gray, Andrea Alvarez, Gwen Bindon, Margaret Davies-White, and Betty Garcia. Nancy was the low net player of the week with a nice 3 under par net.
Starting in February the results for our play days will be posted on the website along with a lot of great information so be sure to visit the site frequently at https://womens9holegolf.vgcc.club
Remember our Valentines Tournament is scheduled for February 11. I hope you gathered your team and signed up on Cobalt. It sounds like the ladies have planned a lovely event.
The bunker renovation is proceeding with the first three holes open for full play but remember the area around the new bunkers is going to require all of us to be protective by making sure we do not drive carts on the new sod. Holes 4, 5 and 8 are also open for play but bunkers and their surrounds will still be played as ground under repair. It is time to sign up with one of our teaching professionals for a sand lesson. The staff is offering the following instruction to get us already for the upcoming tournament season:
February 22 – Chipping & Pitching – Get it Close to the Hole
March 8 – Greenside Sand Bunkers – Get the Ball Out in One Shot Every Time
March 15 – Putting – Master Lag Putts, Short Putts and Everything in Between
March 22 – Specialty Short Shots – High Lob, Downhill, Uphill, Thick Rough, conducted on the Par-3 Course
March 29 – Full Swing -Flush it Off the Fairway – Irons, Hybrids & Fairway Woods
April 5 – Driver – Hit it Long and Straight Off the Tee – GC Quad to measure your distance
Have a great day and enjoy your golfing.
