Pinseekers to close September with member meeting and BBQ

By Jim White

Finishing Pinseekers September play, four threesomes headed to the 10th tee to face a chilly, but beautiful morning for golf. It was a day filled with many great shots, and other shots that were not met with quite the same sense of satisfaction. Ah, the trials and tribulations of a bunch of old men with mid to high handicaps. There were some great strikes and some that were not so good. One of our members forgot his sand shovel and bucket but still managed to find the sand with eight shots. Now, for the good news. Today’s players completed the nine holes with our best average puts per player of 17.2. This is 0.5 putts per player better than our next best day and a full one put per player better than our three-month average of 18.2. Great job, gentlemen. Practice does pay off.

The Victory Stand held this week’s six low scorers: In a tie at the top, Dick Henderson and Ron Speer finish at the day with Net 35, one under par. Second place was a four-person tie with Chuck Benjamin, Will Ector Leighton Horio, and Jeff Rose each finishing with a Net 39. In completing the first three months of our playing year, Ron Speer is leading the race for Championship Points, followed closely by Jim White and Dick Henderson.

The Top Putter of the week a tie with Dick Henderson, Dick Schroeder and Jeff Rose each needing only 14 puts to finish their nine holes. For the three rounds played in the month of September, Jeff Rose finished with 44 putts, less than 15 putts per each nine-hole round.

We are not playing on September 27 as The Villages is hosting an outside charity tournament. We are holding our Fall member meeting and BBQ at Vineyard Center. We start at 11:30 a.m. If you haven’t signed up, come anyway. Bring an appetizer or dessert and your favorite beverage, and we’ll make sure you get fed; don’t be late or the food may be gone.

A reminder that beginning October 4, we will be returning to our “Winter” schedule with first group tee time at noon. We are allocated 20 tee times (five foursomes) however, if we haven’t filled our slots by the Pro Shop close of business on the Tuesday evening before our play date, we will forfeit our priority hold on the unscheduled slots. Make sure you schedule your tee time before the deadline to ensure that we keep those slots.
