The glow of a wildfire. The rumble of an earthquake. We’d rather ignore the truth that these scenarios are realistic threats to the The Villages. It’s easier that way. Easier—but not a good idea. Because we are in a location and environment that is vulnerable to both and if they do happen—you need to be ready.

So each October, the Emergency Preparedness Committee conducts its annual drill so that it will be ready. So that all EPC volunteers know how to fulfill their responsibilities. And your small, but very important role in these drills is to display your OK sign in a prominent place that can be viewed from the street or sidewalk in front of your home—and to do it in a timely manner. During the drill, EPC volunteers will be inspecting every residence for the OK sign and responding to specific health and building scenarios as they would in an actual emergency.

This year’s drill is Monday, October 21. Your OK sign should be up that morning, no later than noon. And equally important, it should be removed immediately after the drill. The posting and removal of the OK sign within the prescribed timeframe is important because should a real emergency occur outside of drill hours, volunteers will assume you are OK if your sign is posted and they will not check on you.

Please alert Public Safety and your neighbors of any absences from home on the day of the drill.  Thanks in advance for doing your part so that EPC volunteers can do theirs.
