Neurosurgeon to speak at Parkinson’s Support Group

Parkinson’s disease can baffle patients, families, and physicians. Yet, advanced treatments and improvements for current treatments are emerging. On Thursday, November 21 at 10 a.m. in the Sequoia Room, Dr. Fahd Kahn, a neurosurgeon affiliated with Good Samaritan Hospital will discuss treatments for Parkinson’s disease including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). Dr. Kahn explains, “Deep Brain Stimulation involves placing thin little wires into the brain for diseases such as Parkinson’s. Essential Tremor, and Dystonia. The DBS provides an electrical current to the deep structure of the brain called the basal ganglia. The basal ganglia are responsible for coordination. The impulse help regulate the abnormal function of the brain because of various diseases.” A board-certified neurosurgeon, Dr. Kahn is also a biomedical engineer.
