Pete Mills will host a reception for all Villagers to attend on Saturday, January 18 from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Cribari Conference room to showcase the exhibit of his acrylic work.  You are invited to attend.

His acrylic art is currently on display. His work leans towards landscapes which takes on the best representation of photographs he has taken of his travels. Realism without trying to have exact preciseness is the goal. We may include a couple of his photographs next to his art to show how close that realism is.

Pete is a self-described relatively new painter. During his early school years, he enjoyed art but had very little exposure to it. About 40 years ago Pete attended a one-day watercolor class at Hartnell Junior College in Salinas. He was determined then to continue painting. That determination had to wait another 25 years though, as life preceded that quest. Then, after retirement, Pete enrolled in a watercolor class at the Salinas adult school. As luck would have it, that school closed two years later.

Not deterred, Pete joined some of his fellow artists once a week to meet and paint at a Mobile Park Clubhouse. They shared their expertise and knowledge to help critique his work. Five years later, his exclusive work with watercolor changed to acrylics. Others were using different mediums, and he chose the acrylic path. Now this is his niche.

Extensive travels via his motor home with his wife in the U.S. and Canada, has netted Pete with a plethora of photos to examine and then choose from so he can let his acrylic work do the rest to achieve a close depiction of that photo. Do take the time through April 8 to see Pete’s work.
