When you hear the expression “Count me in,” it usually indicates that the person is agreeing to partner with you to obtain something. You accept their statement as an agreement and proceed with the hope of their support. It could be as simple as helping pay for an extra-large pizza or sharing the cost of a gift for a deserving friend. When they don’t follow through, do we ignore it?
Have we become so accustomed to people not being true to their words that we no longer hold each other accountable? Some grew up believing that “A man’s word is his bond.” We depended upon their words as a sure thing.
Today, we live in a world of unreliability, and the things we hold in high esteem are disappointing. Someone will tell you all the right things to gain your confidence, only to disappoint you. Broken promises are the standard operating procedure, making managing your life difficult. It would be easier if people could just be truthful. We would then consider different options and make appropriate decisions. This would create an atmosphere of trust on many levels.
I doubt one person on the planet hasn’t experienced another person’s unreliability. It starts early in life; a parent promises a child something, and the child is very hopeful, but the parent never follows through. The child becomes very disappointed and bitter. Check your memory bank; I’m sure you can draw from an event that occurred in your life.
Some time ago, I placed an order with a reputable company for an important event, and they reassured me that it would be delivered on time. It didn’t arrive, and that’s all I’m going to say about that!
Let’s be people of truth because there may be people holding on to a thread of hope and depending on you to be truthful and follow through. You can make a difference as a person whose word is their bond.
Matthew 5:37 NKJV But let your ‘Yes be Yes and your No be No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
