Eight Ironmen turn out for cool afternoon

By Bill Travis and Jerry Juracich

The Ironmen are now in afternoon play, gathering every Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start, sweeps, birdie pool, and closest to the pin.

Thursday, November 14, 2024, was partly cloudy/sunny and cool. Eight Ironmen played. Because there were fewer than 10 players, there were no sweeps.

There were two Birdies today: one by Bill Travis on hole 2; and the other by Jim White on hole 5.

Larry Dorsey won Closest to the Flag on hole 4 at 27 feet, 3 inches.

Hiei Takazawa won Low Gross with a 36.

A reminder: If every Ironman at every game would take the time to fill in all divots and green damage noticed during each week’s game, we would be making a big contribution toward maintaining our own course.

The Ironmen 9 hole, par 3 group would love to add new members. We are a very sociable group, and play basically pressure-free golf. And the first round is on us. Just call Jerry Juracich at 408-440-8283. You can also visit our website at https://ironmen.vgcc.club

Deep Thoughts: “The number 18 (as in golf holes) is symbolically meaningful because it is the numerical equivalent of the Hebrew word chai, which means life.” – Michael Bamberger, Author and sports writer

“Standing at the head of a course in the early light of a late-summer day, with the fog lifting and the sheep bleating, grass clippings sticking to the sides of your shoes and the air smelling of damp wool, the golf course is a sanctuary. You wonder: What’s in store for me today? There’s hope in your voice, of course. Without hope, there is no golf.” – Michael Bamberger
