EPC Drill harkens soon—be sure to have your ‘OK’ sign

By Arlene Versaw

The Villages depends on the Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC) for information on how to prepare for emergencies and for support when one strikes. And EPC depends on drills to ensure that it is ready to respond and to remind residents that they have a role in its response. It is an easy, yet very critical role—and that is the posting and removal of the all-important OK sign in one of your windows facing the street, because that sign will let EPC volunteers know whether you need help. And why is its removal so important? Because if it is still up and a real emergency hits, your sign tells volunteers that you are OK when you aren’t—and well, that’s dangerous.

So now is the time to ensure you have your OK sign at the ready for the EPC Annual Drill on Monday, October 21. Think about which window you will post it on when the drill begins. Make sure it’s highly visible. And remember to remove it at the end of the drill.

Cannot find your OK sign? You can print one off of the EPC website at www.thevillagesepc.com. If that’s not possible, you can also secure one at Administration Building B or Public Safety Building C. If you’re interested in what Sector number you live in or where your aid station is (and you should!), you can find a link to the relevant maps on the website, too!

And mark your calendar for Drill Day—October 21. Then remove your sign after the drill.
