Flag Day is nationally recognized on Friday, June 14. However, the Villages Veterans Club (VVC) will be honoring Flag Day two days earlier on Thursday, June 12 at its annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Barbeque/Gazebo at 10:30 a.m. Part of this celebration is the ceremony to retire American flags that are faded, frayed and torn in a formal “Flag Retirement Ceremony.” These flags will be located in a box at the front of the ceremony. Bring your flags to the Gazebo Park barbecue area by 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12 and stay to watch the flag retirement ceremony. All American flags of any cloth (cotton, nylon, polyester or similar) are eligible for retirement. Our Flag Retirement Ceremony is open to all Villagers.
The retired cotton flags will be burned. The ashes will be buried in a designated Villages area. We will provide the non-burnable flags (nylon, polyester or similar) to the Boy Scouts who will shred them with proper protocol at their annual Jamboree.
The Villages Veterans Club looks forward to having you at the ceremony.
