Hiking Club: ‘Braving the Cold of the Arctic and Antarctic Peninsula’

Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my! Dorothy and her friends from the Wizard of Oz were afraid but braved their journey through the forest singing this song. You could be singing, Penguins, Walrus and Polar Bears. Oh, my yes!

Come hear Mitzi Macon share pictures and talk about her adventures and experiences in the Arctic and Antarctic Peninsula. You’ll learn important questions to ask as well as the pros and cons of picking a cruise versus an expedition journey.

After a 38-year career at San Jose Unified School, supporting administrators and teachers using technology, it was time to travel. Mitzi discovered a passion for photography from her father-in-law, back in “the film days.” While embracing volunteering here at The Villages with the Tennis Club, Ladies Long Nine golf and VMA, traveling is always on her mind.

You will hear and see how walking the landscape is truly a unique wonderland experience. You’ll fall in love with the wildlife and return with pictures and memories you will never forget.

Come to be inspired and leave with many reasons to pack your big coat and go!

The Hiking Club meeting will be held on Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at Foothill Center. The program will follow a short business meeting and a break for socializing with snacks and beverages. The meeting is free and all Villagers are welcome to attend.
