The annual meeting is a time to reflect on our accomplishments. As I do so, one that I believe will have the biggest impact in the future is our participation with the Club and Association in the Firewise Program. Several single-family homeowners have begun on their own to make property changes that will improve their fire protection. Owner interest in the Firewise Program helped us accomplish one of our goals for the year which was a business/social gathering. We held our March Quarterly Meeting late in the day so that more owners could attend. After the meeting we had a presentation on Firewise with a chance for owners to ask questions. We followed this with a social time with refreshments. In addition, the Architectural Control Committee completed Firewise updates to our rules. Once reviewed by legal counsel these new rules will prepare us to aid homeowners in assuring that the exterior changes they make to their homes in the future are ones that promote fire protection for their home and our community.
We are ending the fiscal year with high hopes that the budget changes voted on by all three boards will result in costs being distributed appropriately between each corporation. Thus, homeowners can take comfort in the fact that the amount they pay is for the services they receive. This is something I have personally championed for several years.
Let’s get to the main event, the results of the election.
I am excited to see Morton Cordell continue on the board as he is an asset, especially in the area of our architectural control responsibilities. As chair and board liaison to the committee he works diligently to guide the committee in its responsibilities to our owners.
I got to know Donna Ostheimer through her service on the Estates District Advisory Committee and her attendance at our board meetings. She is enthusiastic, dedicated thorough, and energetic. My decision not to run for a fourth term is partly based on the fact that Donna was willing to run. She brings a fresh perspective to the board, which in turn benefits our owners.
I’ve loved serving the community as a board member, but when there are dedicated people ready to step up and serve, it is time to move on and let the next generation of leadership step in.
I plan to continue to support our board through attendance at board meetings and keeping abreast of what is happening. I encourage all Villagers to do the same. This is our community, and it can only get better if we participate and at a minimum support those Villagers giving of their time and talent to lead us.
