Hot temperatures affect Pinseekers tee times

By Jim White

The early Fall heat wave continues at the Villages and the Pinseekers have moved their Friday tee times from 8 a.m. to noon. Even with the slightly cooler afternoon on this day, October 4, many golfers, including eight of 12 Pinseekers chose to not challenge the heat. Five cancelling completely and three moving to an earlier, cooler starting time.

Then there were four, brave (?) souls teeing off at 12:21 p.m. and finishing as the temperature climbed above 95 degrees. We all felt as if our scores were soaring like the weather but, at the end of hole 18, we were surprised to find that we all shot near Net par. We headed to the “19th hole” and cooled down with an Arnold Palmer (iced tea and lemonade) and the air conditioning of the Bistro.

We are hoping that the National Weather Service forecast for San Jose temperatures to drop into the mid to lower 80s starting on Tuesday, October 8. I encourage all Pinseekers to sign up for tee times on the 11th and 18th of October. If the weather is unfavorable, you can cancel.  Also, any golfers that are interested in playing a quick 9 holes of golf with us. Send me an email to whit3744@pacbell.net, include your name and you phone number. I’ll get back to you and clear your participation for one nine-hole game, no membership fees. We do have weekly sweeps competition, when the weather is more cooperative. Remember, our primary goal is always, “Hit it straight and have fun.”
