Ignatius of Loyola is credited with saying that at the end of his life no matter in what situation he found himself he could find God. From this comes the saying, “Finding God in all things.”
Pope Leo said in his latest reflection on the parable of the Sower that God, “…scatters the seed of his word on every kind of soil—meaning in every one of our situations, “…It does not matter if we receive the seed of Love with fear, or enthusiasm, God’s word at one point or another will bear fruit. We don’t have to be the best soil, the grace given will bear fruit.”
Sometimes it is in the small things that we find this seed. A friend disappoints us, and we respond with love not condemnation. It is in giving that we receive. As we see Jesus in this last story in the Gospel, he is transitioning to a place that seems unreachable to us. Yet his friends return to their home “with great joy” (Luke 24:52) Having accepted the great love of friendship, they were able to share joy.
