Three Ironmen share first place honors

By Bill Travis and Jerry Juracich

The Ironmen are in afternoon play, gathering every Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start, sweeps, birdie pool, and closest to the pin. Thursday, March 20, 2025, was mostly sunny with mild temps. Another fine day for some golf.
Eleven Ironmen played. A new member joined us: welcome to Paul Belknap.

There was a three-way tie for First Place; congrats to Chuck Benjamin; Dave Hathaway; and Gene O’Donnell, all with net 28s. Rich James took Second Place with a net 30; and Arki Galicki and Mario Silva shared Third Place, each with a net 31.

There was one Birdie today by Dave Hathaway on hole 5.

Gene O’Donnell won Closest to the Flag on hole 1 at 15 feet 11 inches.

Dave Hathaway won Low Gross with a 32.

Dave Hathaway won Golfer of the Day honors with low gross, a first place finish, and a birdie. Way to go, Dave.

A reminder: If every Ironman at every game would take the time to fill in all divots and green damage noticed during each week’s game, we would be making a big contribution toward maintaining our own course. The Ironmen 9 hole, par 3 group would love to add new members. We are a very sociable group, and play basically pressure-free golf. And the first round is on us. Just call Jerry Juracich at 408-440-8283. You can also visit our website at ironmen.vgcc.club

Deep Thoughts
“Such is putting! 2% technique, 98% inspiration or confidence or touch…the only thing great putters have in common is touch and that is the critical ingredient…none of them found it through mechanizing a stroke, nor do I believe they could maintain it that way.” – Jack Nicklaus, winner of 18 Major Championships.
“Well, they’re Southern people, and if they know you are working at home they think nothing of walking right in for coffee. But they wouldn’t dream of interrupting you at golf.” – Harper Lee, author.
