Ironmen: Bob Lapidus and Dave Hathaway share first place; Bob Pritchard named Golfer of the Day

By Bill Travis and Jerry Juracich

The Ironmen are in morning play, gathering every Thursday morning at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start, sweeps, birdie pool, and closest to the pin.

Thursday, October 17, 2024, was sunny with mild temperatures. Twelve Ironmen played.

Bob Pritchard won third place with a net 29; there was a three-way tie for second place between Joe Alarcon, Larry Dorsey, and Rich James all with net 28s; and Bob Lapidus and Dave Hathaway shared first place, each with a net 27.

There were three Birdies today: one by Doug Herring on hole 2; and two by Bob Pritchard on holes 2 and 5.

Bob Pritchard won Closest to the Flag on hole 9 at 6 feet, 1 inch.

Dave Hathaway and Mike Schwerin shared Low Gross with 31s.

Bob Pritchard won Golfer of the Day honors with a third place finish, two birdies, and closest to the flag. Way to go, Bob.

A reminder: If every Ironman at every game would take the time to fill in all divots and green damage noticed during each week’s game, we would be making a big contribution toward maintaining our own course!

The Ironmen 9 hole, par 3 group would love to add new members. We are a very sociable group, and play basically pressure-free golf. And the first round is on us. Just call Jerry Juracich at 408-440-8283. You can also visit our website at https://ironmen.vgcc.club

Deep Thoughts:

“I don’t want to play golf. When I hit a ball, I want someone else to go chase it.” – Rogers Hornsby, nicknamed “The Raja,” Hall of Fame Major League baseball player, 1915-1937.

“I sank a long and curling putt, It’s like I’ve seldom seen; It would have helped my scoring but, ‘Twas on the practice green.” – Richard Armour, American author and poet
