The Ironmen are now in afternoon play, gathering every Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start, sweeps, birdie pool, and closest to the pin.
Thursday, November 7, 2024, was sunny and warm; another great day for some golf. Eleven Ironmen played.
Jim White won Third Place with a net 29; Walter Lucas won Second Place with a net 28; and Larry Dorsey and Rich James tied for First Place, each with a net 27.
There were five Birdies today: Larry Dorsey got two of them on holes 5 and 8; Rich James got his on hole 3; Walter Lucas got his on hole 8; and Mike Schwerin got his on hole 6.
Rich James won Closest to the Flag on hole 3 at 6 feet, 11 inches.
Rich James won Low Gross with a 32.
Today was the first of our two annual Turkey Shoots. The winners were Larry Dorsey, Rich James, Walter Lucas, and Jim White; Sang Nam and Mike Schwerin each shared one-half of a turkey.
Rich James won Golfer of the Day honors with the low gross, a first place finish, a birdie, closest to the flag, and a turkey! Way to go Rich!
A reminder: If every Ironman at every game would take the time to fill in all divots and green damage noticed during each week’s game, we would be making a big contribution toward maintaining our own course.
The Ironmen 9 hole, par 3 group would love to add new members. We are a very sociable group, and play basically pressure-free golf. And the first round is on us. Just call Jerry Juracich at 408-440-8283. You can also visit our website at https://ironmen.vgcc.club
Deep Thoughts: “Too much ambition is a bad thing to have in a bunker.” – Bobby Jones, winner of thirteen Major Championships, and founder and co-designer of Augusta National Golf Club
“Not a week goes by without my learning something new about golf. That means, of course, that I was ignorant of eight things about golf two months ago. Extend that process back nearly 20 years and the result is an impressive accumulation of ignorance.” – Peter Dobereiner, correspondent and golf writer
