Ironmen: Sang Nam named Golfer of the Day

By Bill Travis and Jerry Juracich

The Ironmen are in morning play, gathering every Thursday morning at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start, sweeps, birdie pool, and closest to the pin.

Thursday, October 24, 2024, was another sunny morning with mild temperatures. Fourteen Ironmen played.

There was a three-way tie for Third Place between Joe Alarcon, Rich James, and Hiei Takazawa, all with net 27s; Sang Nam won Second Place with a net 26; and Jerrry Juracich won First Place with a net 25.

There were five Birdies today: Rich James got his on hole 5; Jerry Juracich got his on hole 8; and Sang Nam scored three—on holes 2, 4, and 7!

Sang Nam won Closest to the Flag on hole 1 at 15 feet, 9 inches.

Sang Nam won Low Gross with a 28.

Sang Nam won Golfer of the Day honors with a low gross, second place, three birdies, and closest to the flag. Excellent round Sang.

A reminder: If every Ironman at every game would take the time to fill in all divots and green damage noticed during each week’s game, we would be making a big contribution toward maintaining our own course.

The Ironmen 9 hole, par 3 group would love to add new members. We are a very sociable group, and play basically pressure-free golf. And the first round is on us. Just call Jerry Juracich at 408-440-8283. You can also visit our website at ironmen.vgcc.club

Deep Thoughts:

“When ‘The Haig’ died in 1969, Junior called me from Detroit to tell me there would be no funeral. Instead, a bunch of his cronies were going to throw a party at the Detroit Athletic Club. They thought The Haig would prefer that. I didn’t go. Like Hamlet, golf’s ‘sweet prince’ I thought, deserved a grander exit than that. He was splendid. They should have carried him out on a shield.” – Prince Edward, formerly the abdicated King Edward of England, regarding the great Walter Hagen, winner of 11 Major Championships.

“I never wanted to be a millionaire, I just wanted to live like one.” – Walter Hagen
