Jeff Rose is Top Putter with only 13 putts

By Jim White

Playing on the front nine, 13 Pinseekers set out to hit it straight, make their putts and bring the course “to its knees.” As is generally the case, the course once again showed mystical powers by keeping most, if not all of us from reaching Net Par every week. Remembering that our prime objective is to have fun, we congratulated each other for surviving the nine holes and acknowledging that to get our game to even par or to bring our handicap even a couple of strokes lower requires practice.

The September 13th Victory Stand greeted this week’s four low scorers: Jim White snagged the number one spot with a Net 37, pushing hard to share the top spot was Dick Henderson at Net 38. Completing our top four was a tie for the third spot with Tom Hunt and Ron Speer finishing at hole nine with Net 39.

The Top Putter of the week was not even a close contest. Jeff Rose finished our nine holes with only 13 putts. The exclamation point on that feat was his “zero putt” on the ninth hole.

Our final 8 a.m. start will be September 20. On September 27, The Villages is hosting an outside charity tournament. The only Villager play will be an 8 a.m. shotgun start. As a result, the 27th will be a no play, no championship point day for the Pinseekers.

Beginning October 4, we will be returning to our “Winter” schedule with first group tee time at noon. We are allocated 20 tee times (five foursomes) however, if we haven’t filled our slots by the Pro Shop close of business on the Tuesday evening before our play date, we will forfeit our priority hold on the unscheduled slots. Make sure you schedule your tee time before the deadline to ensure that we keep those slots.
