The Villages Hiking Club with a special invitation to The Villages Garden Club is excited to have Dr. Darcy Ernst speak on “Barn Owls as Pest Managers in San Jose” at its Monday, October 28th meeting at 7 p.m. Owl boxes have been a part of The Villages Upper Garden for many years.

Dr. Darcy Ernst is an ornithologist and biology professor at Evergreen Valley College. Working with the City of San Jose, Dr. Ernst and her students help to track and monitor barn owl activity in South San Jose, to better understand owl ecology and participate in integrative pest management. Her work with birds began at UC Davis and continued at UC Berkeley, where she studied the reproductive timing of songbirds.

The Hiking Club meeting will be held on Monday, October 28 at 7 p.m. at Foothill Center. The program will follow a short business meeting and a break for socializing with snacks and beverages. The meeting is free and all Villagers are welcome to attend.
