Welcome City Girl, a striking Oldenburg mare, to The Villages barn! This elegant beauty, standing tall and proud, is settling in wonderfully and preparing for her 20th birthday celebration with her new equine companions on March 30. City Girl is owned by Dove Butler, a new resident of Sonata, who brings a wealth of equestrian experience to our community. Dove’s passion for breeding and showing horses spans more than 35 years, resulting in a lineage of champions. Among them is City Girl, who earned the prestigious title of “Champion Mare” at the GAIG/USDFBC Region 7 Championships at Rancho Murieta, California in 2011.

The Oldenburg breed boasts a rich history, tracing its origins back to the 17th century. Count Anton Günther von Oldenburg’s vision of blending robust working horses with refined stallions from Spain, Italy, and the Orient laid the groundwork for these magnificent animals. This careful breeding produced powerful and elegant carriage horses, highly prized by European nobility and merchants.

Known for their calm demeanor and people-oriented nature, Oldenburgs are truly exceptional horses. City Girl perfectly embodies these traits. She’s gentle, affectionate, and particularly fond of children. Next time you’re at the barn, be sure to stop by and say hello – she’d love to meet you!
