The Pickleball Club has supported bringing Pickleball to underprivileged middle schools in San Jose. In the past, we’ve donated paddles and balls to the Herbert Hoover Middle School. This has been very successful, and we’ve donated over 25 paddles and over 200 balls.
We are expanding this program to support a second school: George V. LeyVa Middle School in the Evergreen School District. Nancy Domingo, an avid new Pickleball player and Tennis player, teaches Special Ed to seventh and eighth graders.
Nancy is establishing a Racquet Sport Club at LeyVa, which includes pickleball! Her intent is to provide a positive opportunity for middle schoolers (ages 12 and 13). These activities promote team building, social and emotional development, self-esteem, and confidence. It’s a fact that interactions such as this during and after school deter negative influences in their communities, such as gang related activities.
To that end… we are looking for your donations of used paddles and balls. Many people have replaced paddles, or have non-compliant paddles they cannot use here at The Villages. Can you think of a better use for them? We can’t! You can drop off your donations at 3213 Bracciano Court.
Donations will be shared between George LeyVa and Herbert Hoover School. One donation of paddles and balls we had has already been given to Nancy. Way to go, Nancy—great job looking out for the youth of our community!
