Pickleball Championship Tournament

In our pickleball community there are moments to remember. At our championship tournament, take note of these!

1) We were so excited to see the Advanced Novice/Intermediate teams filling this tournament! Congratulations on playing some amazing matches! Several left with new friends to play with!

2) Winners and second and third place finishers were presented with medals rivaling the Olympics!

3) Robert Barentsen was playing with Phyllis Seegar in the Advanced Intermediate finals. Robert returned a shot, fell down, made the next shot from the asphalt, got up, fell down again and rolled to his feet to hit the final winner. Awesome!

4) Julie and Larry Henig were playing against Phyllis and Robert when a spectacular flight of 13 geese flew over, honked and pooped all over the kitchen. Needless to say, they moved courts!

5) The taco truck was a highlight … all the fillings for street tacos including grilled shrimp. The pineapple salsa was outrageous! This is the second year for Citlaly and they did not disappoint!

6) Frank Houghten was moving to the ball, but inadvertently stepped on it. The thing was flattened! He tossed it up and it hit Joyce Kludt (our illustrious president) in the head!

7) One participant said she lost 4 in one day … play more pickleball!

8) Thanks to all the folks who came down to fill the gallery. Your support and encouragement made it all the more fun!

9) On a less humorous note … in the final match of the mixed doubles advanced division, Gil and Colleen Cepeda were in hot competition with Mark Gregg and Helen Varenkamp. Mark went for a ball and ended up on the ground with a knee injury. Happy to report that he is doing well and will be back soon! Thanks to Inessa Yurtsev, our wonderful nurse who aways seems to be there when we need her!

Thanks to all who participated in the tournament and to those who came to watch and cheer. You made this event a success and we hope you met and made new friends.
