Pinseekers: Richard Henderson comes out on top

By Jim White

Another sunny afternoon for golf on the back nine of the Villages Long Course. We had three groups playing with tee times from 12:06 to 12:24 p.m. Our final group was off  the course at 2:34.

This week we had only three members with a net score at or near par, but we had four members finish in a tie for fourth with a Net 40, four over par. Our four members shooting a net 40 – Mario Silva, Frank Garcia, Jerry Juracich, and Jim White. In the third spot, with a Net score of 39 was Will Ector. Mike Falarski grabbed second with a Net 37, and Richard Henderson topped the victory stand with a one under par Net 35.

On the putting green we had all members with 20 or less putts. That is an overall improvement from last week’s play of one-half stroke per player per round. That doesn’t seem to be much but the best way to improve, even for “men of a certain age,” is by taking baby steps. Topping the list with 15 putts – Jim White, two members finished with 17 putts – Walter Lucas and Richard Henderson. Walter had six less putts than last week and Richard trimmed his putts by three.

Several months ago, I mentioned one of my favorite quotes from Gary Player. This is something that could help most of us get “our game” back after a wet winter with long gaps in our getting onto the golf course. The winner of 160 professional tournaments on six continents including nine major tournaments, when speaking about luck said, “the more I practice the luckier I get.”

We invite all Villager men to join us on a  Friday afternoon for nine holes of a game that we all love. While we take our play seriously, the prime objective of our golf outings is to hit it straight, avoid three putts, as best you can, and have fun!
