Robert Lee Foster

January 21, 1946 – February 24, 2024

Rob passed away peacefully with his family at his side on February 24, 2024 from Lou Gehrig’s (ALS) disease. Born January 21, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan to Lee & Ruth Foster. Always a curious soul, Rob studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan. While a student, he was employed by the Space Physics Research Laboratory working on pioneering experiments that were utilized in the Space Lab 1 mission, and NASA’s Pioneer Venus mission. His skill at solving complex technical problems led to a long and varied career in aerospace, computer science, and manufacturing.

Rob could “fix” anything, from scientific equipment to antique door hardware, and was always generous with friends and neighbors. Rob leaves behind his sister Patricia L. Henry and her husband Joseph B. Henry, nephews Robert, David, Michael, stepdaughter Piper Major, and nieces Helen & Paxton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rob’s name can be made to the Palliative Care Center General Gift Fund at Stanford University.
