Scam and fraud seminar attendees learn how to keep it safe

On November 18, Public Safety welcomed Seargeant Wellman and Silvia Bybee-Lomeli of the San Jose Police Department (SJPD) Crime Unit to speak to Villagers about keeping their personal and financial information safe. Eighty (80) attendees listened attentively as Wellman covered identifying suspicious emails, blocking unwanted calls and texts, and providing numerous tips on practicing prevention. He encouraged us to keep on top of our bank and credit card statements and, if potentially fraudulent activity is detected, who to contact. Many good questions were asked and Wellman and Lomeli responded with their professional knowledge, including a few personal experiences.

If you missed this event, Public Safety—with its focus to secure, safeguard and best service The Villages—plans to hold more seminars in 2025. If you have suggested topics you’d appreciate covered, please contact Public safety at publicsafety@the-villages.com.
