Tennis Club looks back at history of Rossmoor exchange
As 2024 comes to an end, it is time to explore a little more lore and history of our Club. Our Club was formed in 1972 and started with two courts. The joke often told was they had to give lessons to two others so they could play doubles on one court! The Club has come a long way to now having six courts, a beautiful viewing stand but has yet to have water other than the hose!
We are finishing up 30 years in The Villages and have been fortunate to be active in the Tennis Club for 20 of those years! Golf entered our life for another 20 years and who knows, bocce may be next!
We had the opportunity to spend a few hours at the recent Rossmoor exchange and were thrilled to see how the format remains the same and points still counted on winning sets. In our day, October was always at Rossmoor and springtime at the Villages. The committee who ran this event would start months before to coordinate all the activities. We had a wonderful guy named Angel who we always put in charge of parking for the Rossmoor guests. He loved to rent costumes and always came early dressed as a security guard—hat and all. I think Rossmoor thought we hired him!
Lunch for Rossmoor players was usually at the Vineyard. A huge separate committee was in charge of this. On the playing day, phone calls were made back and forth to make sure our matches were concluded but there was always the long one that had to come late. We jumped in our cars and trekled up to Vineyard for a great feast. We were happy to see this year a taco stand right at the viewing stand. What a great idea!
History lesson over and have a wonderful holiday season and let’s keep that little yellow ball over the net in 2025!
