Village Dancers to tap into Village Voices’ ‘A Winter Spectacular’
You may shout “Duck!” when the Dancing Queens tap their way into Sleigh Ride at Cribari Auditorium on December 7 at 7 p.m. and December 8 at 2 p.m. during the Village Voices’ “A Winter Spectacular.” Snowballs fly and 16 tap-dancing feet dazzle with high-spirited joy. The Dancing Queens will also back the Voices with a waltz-like movement to “Let It Snow.” Dressed in blue dresses, the dancers will provide a dreamy, soft backdrop to the romantic Frank Sinatra holiday song. Bernice Toy, President and Choreographer of The Village Dancers, said, “Our hope in collaborating with the Voices in ‘A Winter Spectacular’ is to come together in as performing artists, to celebrate community” and to connect in hope.
As happens with family celebrations during this holiday season, The Village Dancers must clean the house before their cherished guests arrive. This year the dancers and the Villages maintenance team are wrestling up the puckered, sticky carpet from the auditorium stage. Instead, Marley Flooring, a portable vinyl dance floor will be laid on the tiled surface. With relief, Bernice said, “We are grateful for the advocacy of Pamela Pierson, President of The Villages Music Society that our dance surface will be safe and secure.” Bernice added, “We invite all Villagers to join our Just-For-Fun Dance Group”—it is separate from the Dancing Queens—“every Monday at 5:30 p.m. to learn a new dance routine. It’s never too late to dance!”
