This past Saturday, October 19, we had our annual Rossmoor Tournament at The Villages and were blessed with good weather. This would be the 37th year of the event. The semi-annual competition began in 1987, minus the covid years.
We will keep possession of the plaque for another year as the final score was Villages 19, Rossmoor 5. Brett Foreman and Clayton Krinard started off with a quick 6-0, 6-0 match which was helpful since Clayton had to get to work. Peggy and Gail had the longest match of the day ending in split sets. We had a good mix of our older and newer members playing together.
As everyone showed up for the 9 a.m. start time, there were doughnuts and coffee to start the day.
But this year, Nancy Domingo and Andrea Alvarez may have started a new tradition of using a taco truck for the traditional lunch. Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, lunches were served at the Clubhouse with the host paying for two lunches. In the 2000s, lunch was moved to Foothill with food provided and cooked by a hospitality committee. When Covid showed up, lunch was moved to the viewing stand to be served outside. The highlight of the event was our first Taco Truck lunch. Visitors and players lined up and were served the tacos of their choice. A good time was had by all, spectators and players alike!
