Your heart lifts! Your paddle connects! Thwock! Oh no! Pickleball player down! Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the country, especially for seniors. Sixty percent of players are 55 or older, and more than 33.7 percent are 65 or older. Despite being hailed as a low impact sport, pickleball takes its toll with sprains, fractures, and other injuries. Sign up now for the VMA workshop, “How to Prevent Injuries in Pickleball and More!” On Wednesday, February 12 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Sequoia Room, physical therapist Jason Agdinaoay, from Silver Creek Physical Therapy, will demonstrate how to prevent injuries in pickleball, tennis, badminton and table tennis. Agdinaoay, who has a strong background in the musculoskeletal system and therapeutic techniques, will speak on:
– Common injuries from pickleball, tennis, badminton, and table tennis
– Steps to take when a player is injured while playing
– Routines before and after play to prevent injuries
Agdinaoay will also demonstrate how to warm up and cool down.
A physical therapist for four years, Agdinaoay focuses his practice on “improving quality of life with evidence-based approaches to promote recovery and prevent future injuries for my patients.” He said, “I want everyone to keep playing, stay active, enjoy good health, and socialize with friends and family on and off the courts.” In his life away from work, Agdinaoay, a native of San Francisco, enjoys time with his wife and their one-year-old goldendoodle. For exercise, Agdinaoay favors resistance and cardio training.
