‘What’s in a name?’

Christmas is over. On to the next holiday! Wait a second! Let’s look at the great importance given to the name of the Holy Child: When the angel Gabriel announces to Mary she’s going to have a son, the angel tells her to name the child “Jesus” and tells her that he will be called the Son of God. An angel also appears to Joseph; and Joseph also should give Mary’s son the name Jesus, “because he will save his people from their sins.” Amazingly enough, Isaiah prophesied hundreds of years beforehand that a virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and she will call him “God-with-us” (Emmanuel).

God, the Son of God, will be with us –through life and strife, from the beginning to the end. What’s in name of the Holy Child? The Child will save us from our sins and be with us forever.
