William J. Hackel, III
William J. Hackel, III (“Bill”), passed away peacefully on November 3, 2024. He was 84 years old.
A native and life-long resident of San Jose, CA, he attended Bellarmine College Preparatory and graduated from San Jose State University before starting a 33-year career as a forecaster for the National Weather Service.
After retiring in 2000, he spent several years driving a school bus for children with developmental difficulties and volunteering as a driver improvement instructor for seniors. He loved driving that bus and was frequently seen washing it in the driveway of his house and taking his grandchildren for rides in it.
Bill enjoyed working in the yard, tinkering at his workbench, walking the dog, discovering and mapping Taco Bell restaurants along the I-5, and visiting with family.
Bill will be remembered as a friendly, humble, considerate, and patient man who always had time for his family and friends. Best of all, he was a man truly happy and content with his wonderful life.
Bill is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; his sons David (Marisa), John (Cristin), and Kasey (Stacy); his six grandchildren Mason, Bryce, Zoe, Nathan, Davis and Louvie; his sisters Marianne (Larry) Fuller, Teresa (Gary) Watson, and Roberta Hackel; and many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held in January 2025.
